The Oxford Centre for Textual Editing and Theory exists to encourage and facilitate editorial and textual scholarship of all kinds, both in Oxford and in the academic community at large.

Work in the humanities vitally depends on the existence of good editions, textually reliable and appropriately annotated. The purpose of the Centre is to promote an awareness of the crucial role that editorial activity plays, to serve as a forum for editors and for all those interested in the critical questions raised by textual scholarship, and to provide teaching in editorial principles.

Based within the English Faculty, one of the greatest concentrations of literary editorial activity in the world, we are building a programme of events, including one-day workshops, graduate training days, and conferences, and we are planning to establish a recurrent Oxford Summer School in Text.
